Everyone should have one of these on their water heater. Code requires them in many jurisdictions.

Comments about Amtrol THERM-X-TROL ST-12 Expansion Tank:

This THERM-X-TROL ST-12 Expansion Tank is used on my domestic 40-gallon water heater with city water pressure between 70 and 80 PSI. What's good is that it costs the same as a similar tank at a local retail store, but the local tank has no warranty while the THERM-X-TROL ST-12 Expansion Tank has a 5-year warranty, [...]

NEW EXPANSION TANK

By Bart

from Estes Park, Colorado

Verified Buyer

Comments about Amtrol THERM-X-TROL ST-12 Expansion Tank:

Before installing this tank the pressure in the house would reach 160# before the TPR valve would release and give me a puddle of water outside. Now the pressure peaks at 67# and no more water puddle. Install was very easy. Save your plumbing and install one of these tanks at your water heater.

So Far So Good

Comments about Amtrol THERM-X-TROL ST-12 Expansion Tank:

This replaced the 1 year warranty T-12 expansion tank which only lasted on average of 3 years. So far I've had this for about a year and so far so good.

  • Amtrol THERM-X-TROL ST-12 Expansion Tank

    Q:

The description states that the THERM-X-TROL ST-12 Expansion Tank should be used in an "open loop" setting. Why not a closed loop setting if the temperature it's used for is never higher than 140°, and the pressure is less than 60 psi?

      A:

You really should be OK if you bleed some air off.
It is pre-charged to 60psi, which means you wouldn't get any benefit from this. After all, the main purpose of these is to prevent the actuation of the pressure relief valve.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

According to the manufacturer, the ST series tank could be used in the described closed-loop system.

I have a 50 gallon,60 psi water heater which requires a ST-5 expansion tank.Is it ok to use an ST-12 instead?

      A:

Yes, you can use an ST-12 tank. You can always go bigger with expansion tanks, just never smaller.
