My first use of many shark-bite fittings was installation of the ball valve to 3/4" copper outlet from pressure tank at my river cottage. Went without a hitch and no leakage. Highly recommend the depth tool which I used and insures proper installation.

Does a super job when used to install a new or existing hot water tank. A little plumbers roll and a copper tubing cutter and the installation is very simple to complete

The gate valve to cut the water off from the town is from the 1800's and located in a tight spot. With this SB valve I shut the water the best I could, opened a faucet to relieve pressure, cut the pipe, slapped the SB ball valve in and proceeded to replace my boiler. Bottom line- no need to solder, stops water.

I ordered two 3/4 inch Sharkbite Ball Valves, as well as a bunch of other Sharkbite fittings, for installation of a 50 gallon hot water heater. I like quality products, and I was impressed with the Sharkbite Ball Valves and Sharkbite fittings. After connecting 14 Sharkbite fittings there were NO leaks.

  I know of no reason why a ball valve would not operate where a gate valve does. Having said this, I suggest reading wikipedia on gate valves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gate_valve), then consider if there is any unique property of your gate valve which would make a ball valve less desirable. I can think of none, but I have been caught before!! Good luck.

  You can use this to replace a gate valve, however, it is a ball valve not a gate valve. It will work like a ball valve.

  All SB connections are releasable. You can purchase the release tool for the size you are up against or you can size a adjustable wrench around the pipe and it works the same. The secret is push against SB fitting pull out pipe. I believe the SB website has a video if you need further detail.

  These SharkBite fittings have a 25 year warranty. If the fitting is installed properly there should be no reason that they would not last indefinitely in a system. If you were turning the valve on and off to an excess then you might wear the packing out but that would not effect the connection itself.
