        Comments about Cash-Acme 1" x 3/4" SharkBite Reducing Coupling:

It is surprising how well these things work! They seem too simple and good to be true but they do the job and don't leak.

I used couplers so I could implement a full-PEX system without replacing all my fixtures at once. I just cut the in-place copper tubing that runs to the fixtures and joined them with the Shark Bite couplers. Getting a good even cut on the copper is key and cannot be overstated. The ONLY joins that leaked were ones that I did not confirm a good cut on the copper. A quick re-cut and a little filing and the join was good to go. They never leaked on the PEX side.

I would definitely recommend these over imitations you might see at your local big box store. They may look similar but they aren't the same! I had to use a couple in a pinch but went back to replace them when I was able to get the Shark Bites I needed.

          Q:

Is there a Shark Bite fitting that will fit over a 3/4 Galvinized pipe and convert to 3/4 copper?

            A:

In short, no. Galvanized pipe isn't generally uniform enough for Shark Bites and you need to use a dielectric union to avoid galvanic corrosion.

            A:

You would need to use a threaded SharkBite fitting to connect to threads on the galvanized pipe. The copper could connect to the SharkBite portion of the fitting.
