I saved $750.00 last winter by adding multiple Gorton 2's, insulating the main lines, and adding a vaporstat. Gorton 2's do not like high pressure. They will hiss and spit at around 1.6 psi. So for those of you with hissing complaints, lower your pressure and they work fine. If you are unable to lower your existing pressure controller this low, get a vaporstat. Out of the box, my vaporstat was set to on at 3 ounces, and off at 8 ounces. After installing the vaporstat my Gorton 2 hissing problem disappeared.

I used two of the G2`s for my main venting. I put them on an antler setup. They are huge, so I had to route them up in between the ceiling joists. There have been a lot of complaints about hissing/not closing all the way. It is true. No matter what I tried these valves will not close all the way and they both hiss. I will probably be changing them both out once the heating season starts up again.

A practical time tested eliminator valve

By Village Jim

Comments about Gorton No. 2 Straight Air Eliminator:

A well built valve. Gets the cold air out of the steam mains fast. A simple, practical, sturdy, air eliminator valve gets the steam to where you want it fast. We have an 1894 municipal building with the original pipes. Some of our main vents were missing and others were old radiator valves. I put two at the ends of each of our two mains and two in the middle. Fast cold air out means fast money in your pocket and a warmer building. I am a professional woodworker, and even I could figure that one out. We still have to work on the radiator venting, but we are off to good start. Keep it simple. Do the obvious first.

NO 2 Straight Ahead

Comments about Gorton No. 2 Straight Air Eliminator:

When I first opened up the package I was amazed how big these air vents were. The first time the air started to blow through them I though I had left the faucet on. They are as powerful as they look and they raised the temperature of my unit by at least 3 degrees.

Great product

Comments about Gorton No. 2 Straight Air Eliminator:

Based on what i learned from Heatinghelp.com I bought and installed 10 of these vents at the end of my main in a 4 story multifamily. For the first time in 20 years I have had the building every radiator now heats up at the same time. Gone are the days that half the building would be 10 degrees warmer than the other. "Vent the mains quick and the radiators slow"

Biggest air elimnator out there

By steaming

Comments about Gorton No. 2 Straight Air Eliminator:

Steam mains should be vented real fast, to get the air out quickly so that, when the main vent get hot and closes, there is just a little air left in the system to be vented out the radiator vents. This Gorton #2 is great, if eliminates air in large quantities quickly -- good if you have long mains. I put an "antler" of two of them at the end of the same main, and they work great.

Worked

Comments about Gorton No. 2 Straight Air Eliminator:

I installed two of these vents on the end of my main steam line, which greatly reduced the amount of time it took for the steam to fill the system. This results less energy used (read: lower bills) when compared to my old, single Hoffman 4A.

Installation wasn't hard.

C lose initially, but leak at 1 psi

By Single pipe steam home owner

Comments about Gorton No. 2 Straight Air Eliminator:

I had to purchase and return 2 of these valves at two different times over the past year. They will close when steam hits them, but at about 1 psi of steam, they hiss and leak. Both Pexsupply and Gorton were helpful in getting them switched out. I switched to Hoffman 75s-- even though they have less venting capacity, they don't leak.

    Q:

I have a 4 story multi-family bldg with a 1 steam pipe setup. How do I figure out what size and how many main air vents I need to use? Is there some formula I can use or is it hit or miss? The local plumbing supply store carries the gorton valves but wasn't much help In recommending which to use.
