Description for Grundfos 595916

Grundfos Pumps is proud to bring the comfort and savings of hot water recirculation to the existing homes market with the Comfort Series Instant Hot Water System. The Comfort System includes a Grundfos UP15-10SU7/TLC circulator and the revolutionary Comfort Valve. The stainless steel circulator, complete with timer and 10-foot power cord, is installed directly to the hot water discharge on the water heater. The Comfort Valve is installed under the sink at the fixture furthest from the water heater, and the system uses the existing cold water line to return hot water to the water heater.

The Comfort System is designed to give homeowners the added comfort and convenience of instant hot water and reduce the amount of wasted water. Unlike our competitor's products, there are no pumps under sinks (and thus no power required under sinks), no return lines required, and no buttons to push. Set the timer on the Grundfos pump and stop waiting for hot water.

Features:

  • No return line required
  • Installs in less than one hour
  • No electricity needed under the sink
  • Built-in timer & line cord
  • Uses less energy than a 25-watt light bulb
  • Can save up to 16,000 gallons of water per year, per household
  • Includes timer, linecord, thermal by-pass valve, two valve mounting screws
  • Timer is 24 hr, 3 position, 15 minute intervals

My application was to use this product in a recirulation loop and not rely on the bypass valve enclosed. Really like the timer being part of the pump. Top shelf lines enclosed and easy to install.

This pump made a huge difference!

Comments about UP15-10SU7P TLC, Comfort Hot Water Recirculation Pump, 3/4" NPT, 115 V:

I had this pump installed when I had a plumber change out my two 40 gallon water heaters. He installed the pump on one of the water heaters and plugged it in at a nearby electrical outlet. The plumber also installed the small jump over check valve that came with the pump, under the sink in my master bath.....the fartherest bathroom from the water heaters. This small part allows hot water to circulate back into the cold water line....eliminating the need for a separate return line. I programmed the timer to come on 15 minutes before the actual times I anticipated taking showers and baths.
Now, instead of waiting 3 minutes for hot water to arrive to my master bathroom, I get hot water instantly....no more waiting, and no more wasting water. This product is great. The pump is small, silent, and energy efficient. You won't be disappointed....

Product is basically as advertised.

Comments about UP15-10SU7P TLC, Comfort Hot Water Recirculation Pump, 3/4" NPT, 115 V:

Sensor was located in furtherest area from water heater and hot water was instantly available at location. Problem with lines that tee off from sensor line in that hot water does not reach these areas. Pump is quiet and efficient. Installation although not hard requires some expertise. My installation required longer lines from sensor to shut off valves. Valve side was 3/8" & sensor side 1/2 " fittings.

I liked it so much I bought 2

Comments about UP15-10SU7P TLC, Comfort Hot Water Recirculation Pump, 3/4" NPT, 115 V:

We used to wait for several minutes and waste 3-4 gallons of water each time we wanted hot water in the kitchen until I installed the Comfort Hot Water Recirculation Pump, 3/4" NPT, 115 V by Grundfos. now I get almost instant hot water. I have 2 zoned water heaters so I bought another for the master bathroom and have hot water in the shower almost instantly (3-5 seconds). It is fast and easy to install (about 30 minutes) and they include everything but a crescent wrench! I went with the Grunfos which is a little more than others because the pump is a metal housing and have used their pumps before.

Comments about UP15-10SU7P TLC, Comfort Hot Water Recirculation Pump, 3/4" NPT, 115 V:

WATER OUR MOST PRECIOUS RESOURCE. Before installing the recirculation pump, we wasted 5 to 10 gallons of water per shower, waiting for the hot water to reach our master bath. Now, there is no waste, and we can actually turn the water off while soaping up, shaving etc, without fear of loosing the hot temp. It is so great, I bought 2 more and installed them in friend's and family's homes. Easy install AND $$$ saving results!!!

  • UP15-10SU7P TLC, Comfort Hot Water Recirculation Pump, 3/4" NPT, 115 V

    Q:

My pump was installed about 3 yrs. ago with one valve under the master BR sink & it worked great until a couple of months ago. It's plugged in, the timer is working, but it seems to have lost the pumping capability. Could it be the valve? Or is it more likely the pump? And, whichever it is, please advise on what action to take.

Turn the pump on and see if it vibrates. If it does - disconnect the output side and see if water is coming out. If it is not vibrating when you turn the pump on- then it is the pump

Jim, I'm not a plumber, so not really sure I can be of help.
I seem to recall however, that somewhere on the PEX website there was a manual for the valve that had a troubleshooting section. My guess is that if you go through the steps it will assist you with figuring out it the pump is working.
      Good luck!

Correct if I understand your question. One pump at hot water heater and a
control valve for each leg of manifold.

I have quite honestly not installed the 2 mixing valves yet as I'm waiting for a stand for the water heater. I did, however go to several plumber forums and confirm was needed for more than 1 zone. hadn't considered using check valves though.

Since the pump will be installed at the hot water tank you will only need one for each hot water tank.

    Q:

Are these efficient enough that you can just place them into the "on" position and not worry if you will have hot water - if I run the pump continuously how long should expect it to last?

      A:

Yes, this pump is efficient enough that you can just place it into the "on" position and not have to worry about it. There is a timer on the pump as well that you can set for this.

  • UP15-10SU7P TLC, Comfort Hot Water Recirculation Pump, 3/4" NPT, 115 V

    Q:

The description says that the existing cold water line can be used to return hot water to the water heater. Wouldn't that make the cold water line hot, so when a person went to get a drink of cold water it would actually be hot water that used to be in the hot water tank, and the person would have to wait until fresh cold water filled the line thus wasting water?

I could only see this being useful for a shower or bath tub water lines if the lines ran directly from the hot water heater to the shower and didn't feed anything else on the way.
Asked on 1/24/2012 by Luke from Canada

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The line that feeds the water heater is normally branched off from the main (cold) line. If you push the water into this line after the separation from the cold line, it would not be part of the feed for cold fixtures.

    Q:

This seems to be for in-door placement. My electric water heater is in the crawl space below the house. The area would be protected from rain/snow/ice, but not completely from hot and cold temperatures of middle Tennessee. Can I install it in the crawlspace?

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

We don't see any issue with installing the unit in a crawl space. As long as water isn't freezing or turning into steam, you should be fine.

      A:

It's possible. This is a water-lubricated pump. If it runs while there is no water in the lines, the motor could blow out. This is known as dead heading.

The pump will have no problem. We recommend that you check with the manufacturer of the water heater to make sure you can use a recirculation pump.

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

the water heater will continually heat water because of the continuous demand for hot water. The water heater should shut off once the water being sent back to the heater reaches the desired temp set at the water heater. You can set the timer on the pump to run only during peak demand hours. you may experience more hot water on the cold side when you want cold water.
check with the manufacturer recommendations on using return lines and re-circulation pumps.
