Comments about Grundfos ALPHA 15-55 F Cast Iron Circulator Pump w/ Terminal Box:

Installed two Alphas to replace two Taco 007-IFC zone circulators in a constant-circulation space heating system. The Alphas are running on low fixed speed (i.e., not using the Autoadapt feature because as zone circulators the head and flow are fixed in each zone). The system deltaT is better now; the system was previously overpumped. The Alphas are silent. The electrical draw of this system dropped to 12 Watts with the Alphas from 163 Watts with the old circulators. That is a 93% reduction and will result in huge seasonal electrical savings for the building.

The build quality and overall design of the circulators is excellent. The wiring could not be easier. The simple lighted "user interface" and push-button mode-selector is just that -- simple. Well laid out and works great.

Comments about Grundfos ALPHA 15-55 F Cast Iron Circulator Pump w/ Terminal Box:

[...]When first powering up, be sure the system is pressurized or pump will show 0 gallons/per min flow regardless of setting. Instructions say nothing about this. Otherwise great product.Have it connected to a wood stove water heating loop and a TurboMax 65 tank (see my Turbomax review also). Set on AUTO, it draws about 24 watts when the system is cold, as the system heats and the pressure increased to 15PSI, power drops to about 21 watts. About the same power needed wether circulating only to the storage tank or baseboards and storage tank. I expected more power would be needed when running thru the baseboards also, but not true??Anyway, great product and so far has been working flawlessly.

    Q:

Will this pump be equivalent to a TACO 009-F5?

      A:

Not really: the Taco 009 has higher head pressure capabilities, but lower flow ratings. You need a circulator that can handle both the flow rate and head pressure of your system.
