In my opinion, this is the gold standard for one-pipe steam radiator vents. Adjustable to six settings is more than adequate for most residential applications. My system is much better balanced with this vent in place and the vent was a bargain at [$]

I replaced all 12 in my house built in 1934. I had previously bought some chinese off-brand non-adjustable air vents. From day one, those NEVER worked right. My pipes would rattle and bang like there was a burglar with a sledge hammer in my house. After putting these on, the system is quiet, save for the occasional whistle until the vents shut down. All the rooms in my house are now warm. I'm sure I will see savings in my heating cost since the old vents never closed and were constantly venting hot steam.
It is probably a good idea to pick up a 1/8 npt tap prior to installing, the radiator threads in all my radiators were corroded. Quick re-tap and they fit and threaded in perfectly.

After reading reviews, I ordered these valves for my ancient steam system. We always had hot rooms and cold rooms and VERY cold rooms.Replaced every valve and what a difference! Set them at 6 in the cold rooms farthest from heater and worked my way down the scale as the radiators got closer to the heater.This house is balanced like it has never been in the 30 years we lived here.Everyone in every room is happy and I am the hero!! Our large pre-Victorian home, constructed just after the Civil War, has many old steam radiators, and we have used Hoffman air valves for ages. I noted that the new valves were just like the reliable ones we had used for decades, and that's good. I installed them carefully with the threads taped for secure fit. And I tried my best to dial the air valves properly according to their distance for the boiler. We're ready for a cold winter now, thanks to the Hoffman air valves.

We have owned this home for twenty years and gradually the heat has been getting less and less efficient, with some radiators that stayed completely cold. I did a little research and discovered that these valves are still made and are an exact match for the ones we had. I put them on all 6 radiators just in time for the recent frosty nights and adjusted them, slow (setting 2) on the closest and fast (setting 5) on the farthest from the boiler and every single radiator got hot when I lit the boiler. I hear a faint whistle when the boiler fires now indicating that they are working and the house was much more comfortable for the recent two cold nights.
