A quality product.. We live far from any population and parts for the steam system are hard to find. This is the place and when I order parts, they arrive promptly.

I have these on almost all of my radiators. They work well if they vent as a relatively slow vent. Due to their internal construction, they do click quietly when they open or close but are otherwise very quiet vents.

I bought the valve to replace an older Maid-O-Mist. The Hoffman is the standard and works well. Pex [...]had the best price I could find. I saw the #40s at my local hardware store for more than double the price the next week.

Why is my radiators making a hammering noise some times...???

                                        • A:

Water hammer occurs when water shuts off suddenly and the fast-moving water rushing through the pipe is brought to a quick halt, creating a sort of shock wave and a hammering noise. Bleeding air out of the system can resolve this issue.

                                        Q:

Hi, I am looking for 1 of these, but I am not sure if this would work on my radiator. The air valve that I have on mine is a Dole 1A. The problem that I am having is that only 4 of the 12 fins heat up. I was told that there is most likely water in my radiator. So I took out the radiator and emptied what was probably 8 to 10 ounces of water and still the radiator does not heat up all the way. Any advice on what I can do?? Is it actually the air valve that is shot? Thank You

                                          A:

The replacement air vent for the Dole A1 is the Hoffman 401422. There could be a few issues with the steam system that could cause unheated radiator issues. You have to make sure that all the boiler piping is pitched back towards the boiler. You have to also make sure that your boiler is big enough for all the radiators in the system. If the boiler is to small they you will not get steam to all the radiators.
