Had the TrueSteam unit installed when we built our house in 2008 and the unit has worked up to about 6 months ago, started getting dry nose & mouth and a lot of static electricity. Check the lights on the unit and had 6 blinks which ment that the level sensors were bad, upon investigation and removal of the sensors found that 2 of the sensor housings had cracks in them creating a short and faulting the sensors. Replaced the sensor and working fine, hopefully the sensors will last longer than 3 or 4 years. Also changed the water filter not sure how well of job it does cause there was a lot of mineral build up on the heating coil, need to change the filter more often and check for scale build up in the True steam more often, every 3 to 4 months! PexSupply had the parts on hand and at the best price on the web. Much cheaper than my local dealer. Buy the way we are in rural area on a well.

Shipping and brokerage fees to Canada added about $40 to the price of this Honeywell steam humidifier water level sensor. To replace it under warranty (part only), the local HVAC serviceman required ten times that amount and two service calls for which I would have had to hang around for a half day each. I would have had to wait 3 days because the part wasn't in stock at the HVAC depot. If I picked it up myself I would have had to pay for it (no warranty so at a much higher price than I paid from Pex), take a half day of my time and put 80 km/50 miles on the car.

I ordered it online from Pex and the sensor (Honeywell original part) was delivered by UPS to my door in 7 days. It took me 5 minutes to install. Think I'm going to use my local HVAC dealer again? Not likely.

We have extremely hard water and during the winter the steam humidifier requires monthly service with a complete cleaning each time. It does a superb job of humidifying and I'm happy with it even though it requires regular frequent and intensive maintenance.

I would recommend a steam humidifier to a friend but with the reservation that the humidifier isn't install-and-forget.

Exactly what I needed

I notice that this must be an upgrade because of the product number change from what it was in the installation manual. It seems to be of a different material and maybe should have been a free replacement from Honeywell do to a possible materal defect.

A mixed bag as noted below

By Dan

For the period that this product was functioning, it was excellent. It maintained the humidity in our house during the dry winter months without excessive waste of water.

But, it failed a month or two ago. It stopped maintaining humidity and indicated a level sensor failure. We replaced the sensor (under warrantee) but it continued to fail. We are replacing the entire unit under warrantee and returning the failed one. This is costing us a few hundred dollars extra in plumber's charges as well as shipping costs.

Your phone responses have also been excellent.

The sensor fixed the problem I had with my TrueSteam overflowing. The part number had been superceded, and the customer service person gave me the information. It was shipped quickly, thanks!

The good - it's easy to replace and relatively inexpensive.

The bad - this is the second time it has failed in last 18 months.

Honeywell Truesteam water level sensor

By Larry

I had to replace a failed water level sensor on my Truesteam humidifier. PEX had the part at a good price. Shipped on time, received in top condition. I believe the sensor design is flawed. The plastic on the sensor probes degardes, probably due to prolonged contact with hot water in the tank. Other online postings suggest the same failure which leads me to believe it is a design issue. The part as supplied by Pex is adequate and easy to install. My hope is that the replacement part is better than what came with the unit. Too early to tell if it will last longer.

I live in Canada and was very happy with the price (including cross-border broker costs [$]) and quality of this product. It was much cheaper than any price I could find locally. It was simple to install and my humidifier is working great again.

The 002 is the replacement for the original 001 part, probably because the 001 part failure rate was higher.

The manufacturer has replaced 50027998-001 with 50027998-002. There are no functional differences between the two parts.
