Great Product

Comments about 6" Round Automatic Damper:

I bought these dampers along with a the Honeywell TrueZone HZ322 kit and the wireless thermostat kit to try and even the temperature difference between the 1st and 2nd floor. The dampers were difficult for me to fit into my existing 6" ducts. It seemed that they just needed to be crimped a tiny bit more. The only way I was able to get the damper to fit was to remove the screw from my existing 6" duct and spread it open about 1/4 inch. Once I did that then the damper went in easily and I just screwed the two sides of the spread duct to the damper to keep it from opening more. Once I had the dampers in place I wired everything together, configured the wireless adapter and everything worked perfectly (Two things worth mentioning for those with little experience is that it makes no difference which slot the orange and yellow damper wires go into the zone panel. Just make sure you have the same colors connected when you parallel them together. Orange to Orange to Orange, etc. The other thing is that the internal wires on the transformer are the opposite of what you would expect. White is Hot and Black is common. The external wires that go to the zone panel are clearly labeled R and C). The damper motors are silent and when they were closed I could not feel any air coming out of those registers. Another thing I was very satisfied with was the support I received from Honeywell. Since I have zero experience with HVAC systems I wanted to be very clear on the entire installation process, so I called Honeywell. After a few transfers I was able to get the correct phone number for the zoning support dept. Once I had the correct number and extension (800-828-8367 Opt 5) I was able to get a technician without any hold time. They did a good job advising me on the installation process and explained all of the steps simply when it became clear that I had no experience. If you are considering the purchase of a TruZone system I would call them first to get their recommendation and make sure you order the all of the parts you will need. Be prepared to explain exactly what you intend to accomplish. What type of HVAC system you have. 1 or 2 stage, heat pump, etc.. How many zones you will need. How many ducts you will have going to each zone, how many of those you intend to close. Do you need to install a bypass damper? As for Pexsupply, I ordered the dampers first and the rest of the system about a week later. Both times I received the packages within 4 days if ordering. Since both orders were over $300 there was no shipping charge. High recommendations for both Honeywell and Pexsupply.

    Q:

Does the motor remain tuning when in the power closed position after the damper has been closed or does it continue to run to keep it closed.

I don't think this is a motor; I think it is a solenoid.
If youre refering to your zone controller and the fan motor; set your
damper to be normally open. This way if your fan is still slowing down the
dampers will open and won't cause an increased pressure in the manifold or
      collector box.
      Hope this helps.

      A:

When an ARD has been driven to the closed position, the blade hits the gasket and the resistance against the motor is high enough to cause the gears to lock up. When controlled by a Honeywell zone panel, the dampers are all open when in idle mode (no call for heat, cool, or fan from any zone). The dampers are also open when that zone is calling for heat or cooling. The only time a damper gets powered closed is when one zone is calling for heat or cool and another zone is not calling. At that time, the zone that is not calling will get powered closed and remains powered for as long as the panel wants that damper closed. As soon as power is removed from the damper it will spring open.

This damper is power to open. It closes via spring force once power is cut. So power on is open, power off is closed.

Motor remains powered and 'stalls'. When power is released spring opens
damper (turning motor backwards). You can reverse setup as well to make it
      a powered-open (instead of a powered-closed).

It was a long time ago, but as far as I remember the motor stops after the dumper has been closed.

    Q:

I have what I believe to be a 16 inch round honeywell damper in my AC system. The unit is set up for power close and spring open. The retrun sping is broken. Can I replace the control unit on top of the damper without changing out the entire damper?

    Q:

I have a swamp cooler hooked up to the same duct work as the Central HVAC system. I would like to damper off the swamp while using the heater or ac and not have the heat or cool air to go out through the swamp cooler. So I thought I would put in a damper, I want to control the open and close in the house and not have to climb up in the attic to do this. Will this do the trick? Do I just put a switch on it and open and close when I want to use the swamp?

While there is no concrete solution to this problem, we recommend applying a small amount of lube to try and reduce the noise the spring return is making.
