Humidifier Works Well, But Cheaply Made

Comments about Honeywell Powered Humidifier with Humidistat:

I chose this model to replace my ancient, failed Aprilaire 110 humidifier because Honeywell offers a 5 year warranty (Aprilaire's is 1 year and only if it is "professionally" installed) and because the Honeywell more closely fit the existing opening in my ductwork than competing models. The Honeywell unit seems very fragile, with thin wall plastic everywhere. While nothing broke, I handled it very gently. It is apparent this unit is cost reduced to the ultimate degree (ie, cheap). Unfortunately there is a design flaw with the electrical plug on the front panel: the electrical pins get pushed out when the two connectors are joined. Arrgh! This the cheapest electrical connection I have ever seen. I resorted to reinserting the loose pins and supergluing them in place. This connector will likely be a reoccurring problem for users because Honeywell recommends frequent inspection intervals (every month or so during the peak season). That means the pins will likely work loose after a few disconnects. (Hope Honeywell honors the warranty and redesigns this part.) Otherwise the unit performs well and is quieter than the old Aprilaire. In my case I used plastic tubing for the water supply. I think this reduces the water flow noise. The previous copper connections seemed to transmit the flow noise through the piping to upstairs. In summary I will recommend this unit, but with considerable reservation.
