I installed this in 4 hrs with no HVAC experience at all. My house was 27% humidity when I installed, 45% 2 days later. The VisionPro is the only way to go for thermostats. Only uses 3 wires so that saved me the hassle of running additional wires.

Everything works great, I force the fan on when there is a call for humidity. I don't use frost protection (I'd rather have humidity and the condesation goes away by 10am). Before TrueSteam we had temp set at 70, now it's at 68 and we are all comfortable.

Great unit, spend the xtra money and go for it.

pexsupply hands down the best price especially if you have a coupon!

I have a heat pump with electric back up, so a steam humidifier seemed like the best solution. I purchased the 9 gallon TrueSteam with the IAQ controller in Set 2009 from PexSupply. The IAQ controller is excellent for any type of heating and cooling requirements with any type of system. I highly recommend it. The humidifier worked fine for the first winter. I live in an area with mild winters, so it only ran about 4 months at the most, and not very frequently. When I turned it on Dec 2010, it reported back that the temperature sensor failed. Correspondence with Honeywell indicated the sensor could not be replaced separately. I needed a whole new humidifier. And, since the unit was out of warranty, it would be an out-of-pocket expense. Now the happy ending. [...]The replacement is working well, but let's see what next winter brings. [...] When I bought the unit Pex had one of the lowest prices. [...]

Works great

Comments about TrueSTEAM 12-gallon humidifier w/ VisionPro IAQ Control:

Excellent instructions
Very simple install
VisionPro IAQ makes it very simple and effective.

The only downside is you are using electric rather than gas to heat the water.

So you are adding heat to space being humidified, but you are paying a bit more for that heat than you would if the humidifier was gas powered.

Comments about Honeywell TrueSTEAM 9-gallon humidifier w/ VisionPro IAQ Control:

This humidifier works great. The install wasn't to bad, nothing difficult with it, only issue I did have was clarifing were to wire the outdoor temperature probe (which is included with the humidifier but not mentioned), instructions don't mention it at all. Also, if you want the humidifier to run during your cooling cycle, you will have to purchase a Discharge Air Temperature Sensor (DATS). Besides that, it pumps our plenty of moisture, definitely noticable in the house within a day. Its worth the money.

Works just fine

By JCP

Comments about TrueSTEAM 12-gallon humidifier w/ VisionPro IAQ Control:

I believe that the TrueSTEAM is working just fine. Being a DIY, it took a couple days for me to put it in. Having a 3500+SQ FT home it seems to run all time to maintain 35% humidity. I don't think it works well up stairs and will consider getting another one for the attic furnance. There seems to be a trick with getting the VisionPro thermostatic to work with the TrueSTEAM. In the manual it says to set option 0374 to 1, but there is no option 0374. The default setting for option 0372 doesn't work and you have to set it to something else. After doing that, option 0374 appears and the TrueSTEAM started to work.

Great product so far

Comments about TrueSTEAM 12-gallon humidifier w/ VisionPro IAQ Control:

The product has been working great as advertised. Installation was a bit expensive due to the product needing it's own electrical circuit installed and water line ran. AC/heating guy is needed to wire the unit to the furnace. [...] The humidity is staying around 40% (as set) consistently. Only problem is that I set the unit (by thermostat) to run independent of the furnace and fan which caused leaking out of the duct work and onto the ceiling sheet rock. I now have it set to kick the fan on when humidity is needed and it works great without any problems. I have a 2100 square ft. home and live in a very dry area. I've only been using it for a week but so far, so good. The thermostat (VisionPro IAQ) is very nice with lots of different settings and easy to use functions.

By far the best humidifier I've owned!

By Dave P.

from Firestone, CO

Comments about Honeywell TrueSTEAM 6-gallon humidifier w/ VisionPro IAQ Control:

I first saw this unit at a home show, the company wanted $1500 for one installed! I found the same unit through PEX for a whole lot less. Installation took the better part of a day; I had a few problems getting the wiring properly connected and switches set correctly (the installation manual was a bit confusing in this regard) but eventually got it straightened out. If you are the least bit handy, this is a DIY project. The unit works great! It took about a week to get the humidity up in the house, but since then it's been holding steady. Even with outside temps below zero I have not had any condensation on the windows. A particularly nice feature is the furnace filter reminder built into the thermostat. This is a great product and I recommend it highly. Were it not for the wiring and switch issues I'd give this 5 stars.

    Q:

Would installing the Truesteam 12-gallon humidifier on the return duct rather than on the supply side be something to be concerned about?

I put mine on the supply side. It seems to me that putting that much humidity into air that's going to go through your blower and furnace will cause a lot of rust and damage.

      A:

In the short term no, however over time the moisture will not due the heat exchanger any good, the filter will not last as long as it should the humidty will gum it up with dust and in general it would defeat the the purpose of a humidifier. The furnace will send the your moisture right out the chimney

The True steam should only be installed on the supply side. You don't want steam pulled through the furnace components.

      YES, DO NOT DO IT....

You will be sending steam directly into the furnace where the water vaper would condence and rust the unit out.

It must be installed on the supply side...

No problems. I bought mine from pex-supply and mounted in on the supply
side. A year later I had a new hvac system put in and the installers
recommended mounting the humidifier on the return side (mostly for fit).
It's been there for 2 winters now with no problems.

      A:

No not really. Humidifying colder air is less efficient but because the Truesteam unit is already vapor this should not be a problem. If the connection is far from the furnace I might be concerned with condensation if the return air is very cold.

That depends of ducting lay out and geometry . That would be my last choice
because of interference and all mechanical devices moist air has to flow
through. There is a higher risk of contact condensation.
If there is a quite long straight run of ducting before air get into the
blower( 20 time ducting diameter ) that might be possible. But again , that
      would be my last choice.

Do not install a true steam on the return. The idf motor and circuit board
should never be exposed to extreme heat and steam generated by the true
      steam unit.
      Good luck

    Q:

What does the VisionPro IAQ controller accomplish compared to a manual controller? (I'm wondering if I really need the VisionPro)
Asked on 12/27/2011 by Dave from Kingston, TN

    1 answer

    • A:

The VisionPro IAQ controller is a simple three-wire hookup system that features a digital display that incorporates temperature, humidity and ventilation controls into one unit, as opposed to multiple manual controllers.

    Q:

Some people indicated that the system needs a DATS or additional equipment so that the humidifier can run in conjunction with the A/C. Is this true? If yes, is just the DATS sensor needed alone, or is a kit needed that includes a transformer or panel for that equipment as well? Also, where are the instructions indicating the use of this DATS device or installation guidelines for use with the TrueSTEAM?
    Asked on 8/9/2011 by Anonymous

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The TrueSTEAM does not require a DATS and, if using a YTH9421C1010 thermostat, the humidification will only operate in heating or when the last call was for heating.

    Q:

My Supply duct is insulated since it's in a non-climate controlled space. I assume to prevent condensation during the cooling season. How would this affect the installation of the TrueSTEAM unit? Would you just need to cut where the template is provided or would you need remove more of the insulation for clearance for the rest of the unit? Also will a standard condensation pump work for it or do you have to install one rated for higher temperatures?

You should just have to remove the insulation for the plate. Honeywell recommends using a higher temperature condensate pump.
