Comments about High or Low Limit & Circulator Strap-On Aquastat, 65-200°F range, 5-30°F Adj Differential:

This aquastat is used in a home water recirculating system to control the water recirculating pump. It is easy to install and easy to set. Rather than wiring it directly to the power source I have the aquastat plugged into the receiver of a remote wireless motion detector (available at [@] for about $40). The motion sensor is located inconspicuously at the top of a hallway common to the two areas requiring water recirculation. When someone passes near the sensor it provides 120V to the aquastat. Thus the recirculation pump only runs when someone is near the bathroom or kitchen and the water in the return pipe (where the aquastat is installed) is colder than the setpoint. When the pump turns on it takes only 20 seconds for the hot water to be available at any faucet. Using the aquastat alone would also work o.k., especially if all the hot water pipes are insulated. We just preferred not having the recirculaton system running all day when we weren't home and unnecessarily keeping the water pipes hot, wasting a bit of energy in the process. The motion detector operating the system alone was annoying as we could hear the pump running, and turning on and off every few minutes. One thing we didn't realize with this model aquastat, which straps onto the pipe directly, is that the minimum pipe diameter is one inch. We are using it on a half inch pipe and needed to adapt that. Also, it is held on by a single strap and for a small pipe a hose clamp works better but it would be better if it had two strap cutouts and two straps for the installation.

I used this strap on aquastat on my indoor wood boiler. It triggers a second dump zone, it's set just a bit above my primary dump zone. This one runs heat to my living / dining area, and sends heat to this area when it's available (in abundance). A little extra saftey margin to prevent blow outs.
Easy to install and adjust, wired easily in parallel to the living area thermostat. Make-on-Rise.

The Aquastat is working great for me. I have a wood boiler and last year it was reaching the boiling point way to often. Now that I have installed the Aquastat as a Hi limit it turns on my floor ciculator for about 10 minutes and reduces the boiler temperature back to set point. Very easy to install a hook-up. I also wired my thermostat to the aquastat on the normally closed side of the contact so only one device is in control of the pump at a time. If you have high temperature problems with a wood boiler the Aquastat will keep it in check.

Saved a lot of wiring{only one stat}. Only issue is I wish they had an option to purchase with a deep well mounting kit. I had to scavange the mounting hardware off of the old High/Low stats. Other than that the customer loved them, and a happy customer is a repeat costomer.....

                                          A:

The capillary sensor itself is about 3 inches long, as shown in the photo. The tube between the sensor and the unit is only long enough to reach the sensor bulb which is within the back of the unit. This unit is designed only to strap directly on to the pipe and the directions indicate it requires one inch or greater diameter. I am using it on a half inch pipe and need to modify it by adding some spacers as the bracket is wider than a half inch. When the unit is installed it is on the pipe and the capillary sensor is held to the pipe by the unit itself. The sensor is not visible or accessible when the unit is clamped onto the pipe.

If you need a unit with a remotely mounted sensor that is a different model, also available at PEX.

When you use an adjustable differential, the boiler will cycle at the temperature that you set the differential at. It is a good choice and we recommend to use it. However, this is a strap on aqua stat that goes on directly to the pipe, it is not a capillary type.

This is an SPDT switch and you may have wired it backwards. You need it to make on temperature rise.

Which temperature switch is compatable with a L6006A1327. I need this one but can not find it. I believe is has a strap on mount. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your response. Just to confirm, a L6006C1018 set at 65 degrees, and the dirrerential set at 30 degrees will allow the pump to operate at water temperatures between 35 degrees and 95 degrees. Above 95 degrees, the switch would break, and the pump would stop.

                                        Thanks for your help
