Replaced a defective four wire Honeywell thermostat that worked intermittently. On occasion, the display would go blank and the heat would go on full-on. It wasn't obvious that the thermostat was defective. I initially thought that there might be a problem with the main controller since the thermostat had no battery and power was supplied from the main controller. I was surprised to find that this Honeywell Pro thermostat had a battery. Didn't know about the four wire (with battery), five wire external power option. Got it working with four wires and battery. I then discovered I had the extra wiring to supply power with the fifth wire. Now works great in five wire configuration w/o battery. Apparently, the thermostat I replace was able to "steal" power from a four wire configuration.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Although considered a professional install model, it was pretty straight forward to install. Things that were different than expected. The backlighting only comes on after you touch one of the buttons, otherwise the display is grey, with black numbers. Also, the temperature reads differently than other thermometers in the house. The FAQ explains that this is because this thermometer takes into account the radiant heat in the wall. It's typically a 3-4 degree difference. Seems to work fine and is very straight forward to use.

This was really easy to install and took hardly any time to do it. After attaching the wires to the back plate you simply plug the front on to it.

    I'm trying to set the thermostate for 75 degrees and i sucessfully do this but the temperture on the inside is redaing something else. And I also have the fan set for autoand the fan continues to run and it seems the house is getting hotter and hotter, whats wrong

      This could be a number of things. 1) The thermostat could be located in a bad place (too far away/in cold corner), 2)The thermostat could be defective, or 3) your furnace may have a stuck valve or switch. You may need to call a professional if it's too involved.

      This unit displays both the set-point and actual indoor temperature side-by-side. On the 'auto' fan setting, the fan should run only when the heating or cooling system is operating.

    • A:

      You can set the fan to run continuously, by having the fan switch set to on, or set it so that the fan only runs when the heating or cooling system is on, by setting it to auto - both using the fan switch on the bottom left-hand corner.
