Good thermostat for simple systems

By Dave

Comments about FocusPro Non-Programmable, 1H/1C, Large Display Thermostat:

I renovated an old 2-family and needed a digital replacement for the older round Honeywell analog ones. This model isn't programmable but we didn't really care about that, we have a basic gas hot-water system and just needed a reliable thermostat that is backlit and easy to install and use. This is it. I purchased one for each unit and done. I wish everything about the renovation was that easy.

Very easy to install. The large display and backlight are very easy to read. I am glad I bought the coverplate since it comes with a metal plate that attaches to the 2" x 4" wall box easily and the back plate for the unit easily attaches to it. No need to drill holes in your drywall.

Total control

By Ray

Comments about FocusPro Non-Programmable, 1H/1C, Large Display Thermostat:

Keeps the temp within 1 degree of setting, can see the difference in fuel consumption after only 2 weeks. Replaced an older bi-metal coil round unit, when installing the new one, the blue wire goes on the "C" (cyan) terminal.

Comments about FocusPro Non-Programmable, 1H/1C, Large Display Thermostat:

This thermostat has easy to use push-button controls, not those hard-to-use "slider" type buttons like some others, which may wear out or get stuck later on.

    Q:

The Rc and C terminal on the back.....what are they for? Does a jumper wire need to be connected to these two terminals??
Asked on 9/3/2010 by Dragroll from Columbus ohio

    3 answers

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The Rc terminal is for 24VAC power from cooling transformer. The C terminal is known as the "24VAC common" and it is used for 2 transformer systems (use common wire from cooling transformer). The jumper will have to be connected to the C terminal if you have 2 - 24VAC transformers in the system. If you only have one transformer, the jumper cable that comes pre-installed will have to be removed.

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

This is spelled out in the installation manual at http://s3.pexsupply.com/manuals/1249544874360/Honeywell_TH5110D1022_Install_Guide.pdf The short answer is that the Rc and C terminals should not be jumpered together. The C terminal is used if you want to power the thermostat off the transformer in the air handler and not use batteries.

Answered on 11/8/2010 by Jason K. from Philadelphia
    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

If you have only one control transformer, yes. When all else fails, play close attention to the details in the instructions. Factory default settings probably apply to most installations.
