The thermostat is great. I use it for outside air temperature everyday (with optional sensor) and the thermostat has programmable lockout ranges for the compressor and heat strips. If the outside temp is below the set point, the compressor is locked out and the heat strips are used for primary heat. If the outside temp is above the set point, the heat strips are locked out, even if the indoor temp is several degrees off of the set point (going from unoccupied to occupied). It allows the heat pump to do all the work when it can be the most efficient, but prevents it from running when it will be least efficient. It even has an adaptive set point method that learns how long it takes for the house to reach it's target temp when the programed schedule changes the set point. After a short time, the thermostat uses this information to predict when it should start working to reach the next temperature in the schedule. When 6:00pm comes, the temperature is at the desired set point for 6:00pm. Rather than waiting until 6:00pm to turn on both stages of the compressor and all of the heat strips to correct for the fact that the new set point is 4 degrees off of the old set point.

The thermostat is easy to use, helps improve your HVAC efficiency and looks good too. I couldn't help but turn on the back light. It has a dim glow that makes the display much easier to read and automatically kicks up to full back lighting when you touch the screen. They thought of everything a thermostat should have and then built it.

As a regular programmable thermostat, the 8320 works OK. I ordered this particular model because is has a fan circulate mode that is programmable. I paid extra because of this feature. The problem is that the fan setting operates independantly of the system setting. I realized this when the weather was cool enough to shut my air conditioner off and open the windows in my house. Since the fan was programmed to circulate at various intervals, it continued to run. The only way to turn the fan off is to re-program the unit for all 28 time periods so that "circulate" is not selected. I contacted Honewell, below is their response
" With this thermostat when you program the fan to circulate,the fan is designed to operate independently of the system regardless if you it set for Heat,Cool or Off. If you schedule for the fan to operate on anything other than off it will turn on at that time period of the schedule even if you have the system itself set for off. Unfortunately this is how the thermostat operates."

Very bad design. Extremely dissatisfied

We installed around 20 of these throughout our building to replace units that would not automatically switch between heating and cooling. We programmed them to hold temp within a 3 degree range and they have been working fantastically. No more pockets of warm and cold air in various parts of the building.

The lockout feature is also great. It is very effective in thwarting random people from changing the temp to suit their individual preferences.

I have four TH8320U 1800 VisionPro's and all are working as advertised. In the 'Settings & Options' section of the "Installation Guide" setup function 0190, changeover valve, should mention a method of determining if your heat pump system is an "O" or a "B". An "O",the Honeywell default and the most common,is where the terminal is energized while cooling but NOT while heating. One should check what voltage is present at the change over valve terminal(usually connected to an orange wire)when the unit is heating before removing old thermosat.

I replaced five aging, non-programmable thermostats for a multizone 3h/2c geothermal system. The new ones seemed complicated at first but are really quite simple. They were easy to install and worked flawlessly right from the start. I use remote sensors for two bedrooms with closed doors. The remote sensors can be a problem. It took a lot of research to get them to work correctly.

      There is a way to override the system and schedule your own heating cycle for this thermostat. Here are the steps to customize the heating cycle for your Vision Pro thermostat: 1.Press SCHEDULE then EDIT. 2. Press day buttons (MON-SUN) to select days. 3. Press up or down to set wake time for selected days. 4. Press up or down to set heat and cool temperature for their time period. 5. Press other time periods (LEAVE, RETURN, SLEEP) to set time and temp for each. 6. Press DONE to save and exit or CANCEL to exit without saving. (From owners manual) Good luck!

      This model does not. The Prestige thermostat THX9000 series, if configured to lock the screen, will require a password to unlock. The password is the date code of the control. All other thermostats that have a Range Stop or screen lock option would require going into the installer set up to make a change to the screen or Range Stops. They do not have password or code number.

    I have a heat pump for heat and ac. When it gets really cold i have an oil burner which heats a radiator and the fan from the heat pump blows over it and gives us warm air. Will this stat be able to control both units? I currently have 2 stats, one for each, and i turn the heat pump fan to auto and the system off when the oil burner is on.

    I have a Trane Heatpump Air-conditioner with Emergency Electric Heat Strips & Variable Speed Fan Motor. 6 months ago I installed 4 Honeywell Remote Inside Temperature Sensors & 1 Outside Temp Sensor. Upon installing the Inside and Outside Remote Sensors, I discovered the Trane Thermostat may look identical to the VisionPro Stats, but has no terminals to connect the remote sensors. Is this the correct VisionPro Thermostat I need to replace my Trane VisionPro "Look-alike" Thermostat? Will This allow the fan motor to circulate as well as auto or on positions too? Thank you.

It appears this thermostat does have terminals for sensors, but it may only be able to accommodate two of them. If you give us the model number of your Trane thermostat, we can try to find cross-reference information on it.

    I have 2 Rheem 10 seer heat pumps about 10 yrs. Old. I was told by my service tech my current thermostats are junk and I should get a new ones that are more efficient. HE recommended Honeywell vision pro 8000 series. There are quite a few to choose from and I am not sure which I would need. I have a 2heat/1cool system.

    Our current heating & cooling system is run by an old thermostat. I know this unit is compatible with my system after talking to an engineer, however, I know when there is a problem with our forced air we can use the Em. Heat setting on our current thermostat and it stops using the external fan and just uses our internal furnace. Does this system have an Emergancy heat setting that will do the same ?

    We have a heat pump for our normal heating and cooling as well as an electric coil in the furnace for our emergency heat source. I currently have a rth7600 stat hooked up that wants to run constantly when set to around the 20 degrees C mark(seems to turn the furnace on and off at what appears to be a more normal rate when set at lower temperatures) I have spoke to a heat/cool tech and he says I need a th8000 stat with an outdoor sensor and I wanted to confirm the Exact model # of the stat (and outdoor sensor) I need to order, to work with the heat pump and emg. heat system I have so I order it correctly.
