not as good as older pumps

Comments about Little Giant VCMA-15ULS, 65 GPH Automatic Condensate Removal Pump w/ Safety Switch:

i had an old Little Giant pump which had a broken tub and i replaced it with the new one. The new one is flimsier. The on/off switch (inside) burned out within a month. Replaced it with the switch from the old one. Then in 1.5 yrs the pump stopped working. I bought another one because my boiler system is wired for this pump and other pumps had bad reviews.

I am using it for condensing boiler and the condensate is quite warm. It could be that the water evaporates through INSIDE the cover and that affects the switch and the motor (short curcuits it or something else). That's why I actually removed the cover and drilled about 10 holes on the top of the cover with a small drill so that the water does not accumulate unter the cover (if you do this, first remove the cover and drill, otherwise you will damage it). So far so good, but I had the new one (the second) for about a month. But Little Giant shoudl have though of this, because most boiler condensates are hot/warm.

Comments about Little Giant VCMA-15ULS, 65 GPH Automatic Condensate Removal Pump w/ Safety Switch:

This product was exactly what I ordered for use on my gas furnace. It took about 10 minutes to get it attached and it worked with the turning of the switch. It cost half the amount as another one I purchased, same brand, same everything. The order was processed quickly and I would search this company's website prior to looking at another place to purchase.

65 GPH Condensate Removal Pump

Comments about Little Giant VCMA-15ULS, 65 GPH Automatic Condensate Removal Pump w/ Safety Switch:

I used this pump for a ice maker drain pump. By driling 1 inch holes in the pan of the pump and placing the whole unit in a larger pan it was able to handle the flow of water during the ice making cycle with no problem. Otherwise I would have had to purchase a much larger pump to do the same thing.

Replaced a poorly maintained (previous owner) condensate pump with this one. Super quiet! The old pump was audible from anywhere in the basement. I had to stand next to this one to hear it. Wiring diagram was simple and installation was a breeze.

It Works but...

Comments about Little Giant VCMA-15ULS, 65 GPH Automatic Condensate Removal Pump w/ Safety Switch:

The installation of the unit was painless but after roughly six months I see the same type of problem occurring where the pump is very noisey and vibrates loudly each time it starts up to pump out the excess water. Not sure if it is the pump or something else but it did work correctly and quietly for the first few months.

    Q:

DOES THIS PUMP HAVE A FLOAT?
    Asked on 10/14/2011 by Anonymous

      A:

it has two floats (1) to turn on/off the pump and (2) a secondary float/mechanism (safety switch) that works like insurance in case the pump is broken. If the pump is broken and water exceeds certain level, then the secondary float engages to give a signal. The signal could be adjusted to connect or disconnect two wires (ie from normally connected to normally disconnected). I thought that was pretty cool feature, but i dont need it....

My A/C stop working or cooling, Is it possible that my condensation pump could cause it to stop? the fan blows only hot air. I have the 554405 unit Model VCMA-15ULS it also has two wires that connect to the furnace are they neccerary to make the unit run? Its a Rudd 11 yr.

I am not an expert but I have read the manual for this pump.

Yes, the pump can affect the AC (if and only if) the safety switch of the pump is connected to a/c. An easy way to check it is to see if the pump is full of water. It could be that the pump stopped working and the safety switch is giving a signal to your A/C to stop working.

If the tub is not full of water, then it is (A) it is not the pump which is a problem or (B) the switch itself (inside the pump is malfunctioning). You can test for B by disconnecting the two small wires from the pump and connecting the two wires to each other directly (turn off the electricity of the A/C first, you might have a high voltage system instead of 24v.). If after connecting the wires directly, your AC didnt work, then it is not the pump.

      A:

This pump just drains the condensation. It is probably not the problem.
