Description for Robertshaw 780-845

When the thermostat calls for heat, the 780-845 control simultaneously initiates ignition sparking and opens the pilot valve portion of the gas valve. Pilot flame recognition stops ignition sparking and opens the main valve portion of the gas valve. Pilot burner flame is continuously monitored at a synchronous frequency for the duration of the heating cycle. Should the pilot flame fail during the heating cycle, the control will shut off the main valve until the pilot flame is established.
The 780-845 lockout ignition control provides 90 seconds of spark, followed by a 6 minute time delay (purge) between ignition attempts. After three tries, if no pilot flame is sensed, the control goes into a one-hour lockout period. At the end of the lockout period, if the demand for heat is still present, the unit will repeat the three tries for ignition.
During lockout, you may override the auto-system, and manually reset the unit at the thermostat. The green diagnostic LED will be on continuously for normal operation. The LED will be off for internal lockout and will flash continuously for problems external to the control (ie. not sensing flame).

Comments about Universal Intermittent Pilot Lockout Ignition Module:

I used this to replace my failing SP-745 control module on my Lennox furnace. It worked perfectly. All the connections matched up (just in a different order, so make sure you keep the old one around for reference while installing). There was one wire (a ground on the old one) that was not required for the replacement installation, but other than that it was a perfect match. Having the LED on there for status is a nice extra. For installation, the only big difference between this and the original is that the original controller had some mounting holes that were not on this unit. Mine was attached to a plate using mounting those holes originally, so I used some industrial strength velcro to mount it instead - it'll make any future de-install a little easier).

Replaced the controller in my Lennox G16 furnace. No more problems. PEX had a great price.
**NOT PEX's fault**, but my shipment sat for 5 days at the UPS terminal in NJ 8( - meanwhile my furnace was intermittant.

At about $100.00 dollars less than the Robertshaw Sp 745 this replacement works great. I installed it to my furnace in less than 10 minutes and became my wifes hero. This model replaces Sp745 in any application, cost less and is a easy DIY anyone with a screwdriver can do it. Just remember to turn off the gas and unplug the unit. Happy heating!!!

When it got cold, our Furnace would not kick on. My husband used the schematic that came with the furnace and traced the problem to The pilot lockout module. We searched locally for the part and then online. Pex had the part at half the cost of anyone else. We had to wait a few days for it, but that was fine. My husband was able to easily install it and our Furnace works like new. Thank You Pex.

I started the day with a cold shower... My power vent gas water heater stopped working. Visual inspection showed that there was ignition spark, but no flame. A DMM on the controller terminals for the primary gas valve showed that the old controller was never putting out the 24V signal to turn on the gas to the main burner.

I called around the local plumbers and suppliers. They didn't have the part and wanted to replace the water heater for $2500 and a three day wait. Yikes!

I knew about PexSupply.com from researching a radiant heat project. Their web site showed the part in stock, but it was getting late in the day and I needed to be sure to get hot water flowing ASAP, so I called. The lady that took my order was very helpful. She made sure my part got out that day. It arrived at 9:30 AM the next morning. Ten minutes later, we were making hot water and I was the hero.

                                                  Thanks PexSupply.com!

Just pay close attention when you attach those leads. The IGN is attached on top of the new unit and one of your wires from the old unit no longer needs to be hooked up. I did mine side by side and had no trouble. Take a picture of how it was originaly wired for reference. If you dont get a spark you did it wrong. Make sure gas and elec is off during install. Happy heating!!! Oh yea it cost less than the original, WOW

The one you need depends on the entire model number (i.e. what comes after 'DS845'). You may want to check with Heatilator on whether or not this was an OEM part.
