Description for Taco ZA024Q4A1

Taco Zone Sentry® Zone Valves provide on-off, normally open or normally closed control in both open and closed hydronic systems. The valves can be used in a wide variety of heating and cooling applications, primarily designed for use with baseboad, fan coils, radiators, convectors, air handlers, heat pumps and radiant applications.

The Taco Zone Sentry® is the most technologically advanced zone valve ever made. It's also simple to install and operate. The valve can be installed in any direction, in any orientation. We then went a step further, allowing the operator to be mounted to the valve body in either direction, great for those tight baseboard jobs. Snap-in quick connects on the back of the valve make for a simple, secure and fast wiring hook-up. A green LED light shows full functionality of the valve's operation and thermostat status. Under a no power situation the manual override button located on the top of the valve allows the ball to be rotated up to 90° and is also marked with a slot to indicate the position of the valve.

Item was described as a direct replacement for a EN024Q4A2 and it is, but they have made some changes that made installing ALMOST easy. The previous model was locked in place by rotating it 90 degrees on the valve. This model still attaches to the same valve but uses a clip device and it no longer requires rotating to lock in place, a big advantage in tight installations. This unit uses the same electrical connector but the female side has been rotated 180 degrees so you will have to rewire the existing male connector. Pay attention to the diagram supplied with the actuator and you should have no trouble.

I have had to replace two of these controllers in the past 3 years on my home heating system. The valve controls are now an upgrade, looking a bit different but still installs on the same valve. The motors on these new controls are quite a bit quieter when operating.

Comments about QA Actuator For EBV Valves:

the most attractive feature of the zone valve for me is the ease of replacement .. very straight forward design which favors a quick and easy installation ... but even more important was the service and advice I received so quickly and efficiently after ordering the wrong part .. five stars for service ...

Improvement over the ENO24Q4A1 actuator.

Comments about QA Actuator For EBV Valves:

I found the replacement a significant improvement over the original actuators. Easy to install, better built and so far working well in my system. The old style failed after about a year, so time will tell with the reliability.

Replacement Actuator

Comments about QA Actuator For EBV Valves:

I contacted PexSupply for a replacement actuator for a EBV that was failing to close completely. PexSupply honored the warranty even though the EBV actuator I had was an older style that was no longer in production. This newer actuator was easy to install on my existing valve and works flawlessly. In addition it is incredibly quiet.
Thank you to PexSupply and Taco for making the process of getting this corrected easy.

Better than the original!

By Nick

Comments about QA Actuator For EBV Valves:

I bought this zone valve to replace an older version that was getting stuck in the open position. I was concerned about doing this myself because I consider myself mechanically challenged. To my surprise it turned out to be as easy as changing a light bulb! It is faster than the old valve. Also, the old one made a lot of gear noise when it opened and closed where this one is almost silent. I would recommend this product.

works... for now...

Comments about QA Actuator For EBV Valves:

The taco actuators that I replaced after 8 years of service were a bit of a disapointment as far as longevity is concerned. These new ones are supposedly better in that regard... only time will tell.
The 'clip on' (as opposed to the twist on) mounting mechanism is a nice improvement... less banging into stuff putting them on and taking them off, but how often does one do that?

QA Actuator For EBV Valves by Taco

Comments about QA Actuator For EBV Valves:

Pexsupply saved us time and money. We needed to replace 2 discontinued actuatora for a heating valves in our home. The ones that went bad were only one year old and had been put in by a furnace company to replace previously discontinued valves! At any rate, PEX was the first supplier located that offered a replacement option, so we bought 2. These were perfect and replaced the now-defective replacments without a hitch. We could still be trying to solve the problem but instead, we're working 100% now.

Thanks, Pexsupply

Some problems with the Sentry Head

By Tim Service

from Waterloo Ont. Canada

Verified Buyer

Comments about QA Actuator For EBV Valves:

I was replacing the head of a Taco EBV valve with the newer Sentry head. Which is the recommended by Taco upgrade replacement. The problem is that I did not pay sufficient attention to the dimensions of the new Sentry head. It turns out that the new head is longer the the old EBV head. I was unable to replace the head on the intended zone valve due to this. I was able to replace a different EBV head and use the Sentry head on that zone valve and the 'old' head on the zone valve I needed to replace.
In the end the Sentry seems to be quite nice and much quieter then the old EBV head.

Great new design replacement actuator. I also have had several of the old design fail recently. Popped the new model on the existing ball valve assembly, worked flawlessly. Whisper quiet operation.

I have two EBV075C2-2 3/4" Motorized EBV Zone Valves that need

      A:

If your usage is typical you have a normally CLOSED valve that OPENS upon
actuation, and you need to order the redesigned replacement for the old,
black, noisy actuator. The new part is SKU: ZA024Q4A1 Taco. It's a
normally closed acutator that goes right onto the original valve body. IF
HOWEVER, your use calls for a normally open valve that CLOSES when
actuated, then you need Taco SKU: ZB024Q4A1.
Just be sure which one you need.

This actuator, part ZA024Q4A1, is the correct replacement as long as you have a normally closed valve. The new Zone Sentry actuators work on existing EBV and ESP valves.
