Description for Takagi T-K4-IN-LP

Released in 2010, the T-K4 improves upon many of the features from the T-K3. The T-K4 is one of Takagi's smaller tankless water heaters. At 13.8 inches wide and weighing only 38 pounds, its ultra-compact design allows it to be mounted on a wall.

Takagi's newest tankless water heater also features an energy factor of 0.82, so it is extremely efficient and environmentally friendly. Since tankless water heaters only burn gas when hot water is needed, installing this unit can help homeowners save up to 45% on their monthly gas bills.

The TK4 is smaller than the previous Tankless water heater I had. The retrofit was easy and quick. A very solid, quiet Tankless Hotwater Heater.

Comments about TK-4-IN Takagi Tankless Indoor Water Heater (Natural Gas):

I have now installed 4 of these units over the last several years. I have just finished the latest model the TK-4OS. Having previoiusly had to bother with the exhaust piping this unit can be mounted directly outside. Awesome ! It is super quiet, strong, smaller and lighter weight than their first units. Please do not make the mistake of buying something at the big box stores.. this is exceptionally high quality. Did you notice the 12 year warranty ? Thank you Takagi for making an exceptional product.

  • TK-4-IN Takagi Tankless Indoor Water Heater (Propane)

    Q:

Does this unit have any problems with the "water sandwich" effect, with short bursts of cold water in the middle of hot water flow, especially in showers?

      A:

I have 3 of these heaters and have never experienced what you described. You can get some water cooling if someone else opens a hot faucet while you are showering. It does not go cold just not as hot.

No! This is not problem with the unit I have. This can happen if you
have poor water pressure at times of showering.

Not at all. this is the 4th tankless water heater I have owned and by far
the best. The temp is super consistent and the delivery is much quicker
than the Bosch I owned previously. It has never failed to light, not once.
      Would recommend without reservation!

  • TK-4-IN Takagi Tankless Indoor Water Heater (Propane)

    Q:

I am purchasing the TK-4 IN Propane, and am wanting to know more about the venting system. I am looking at using the Z-Vent self sealing bent parts from your site. I see the direct vent conversion part, am I right in assuming that when you chose to use it then you add the "2nd" pipe (thus a 3nd opening) and another hole for intake? If I use the sealed Z-Vent parts, and do not 'convert it", then I wont need a second opening or pipe?
Asked on 3/15/2012 by blmranch from Ellensburg, WA

      A:

it only takes two pipes( one for intake ,one for exhaust) unless you use the
concentric(sic) pipe then it uses one pipe for both intake and venting. i was
able to download the installation manual . it shows all installation methods. (
if you do not use the direct vent conversion there is only the one exhaust pipe
and intake air is drawn from the mechanical room.

      A:

Direct vent should be used when you do not have enough fresh air (like a trailer) or in a dust room like a work shop. just stick with the Z-vent and you will be fine.

      A:

      Hello bimranch,
I have install four TK-4 heaters. You need to use  stainless pipe for the 4" discharge. This is required by manufactor. Z-vent is the brand I have used and the product is easy to install.
On the intake side, the conversation kit covers the front intake and provide a 3" intake on the top of the unit. This piping does not have to be stainless steel pipe.
If you do not use the conversion kit the unit takes air from the front of the unit and know other piping is required.
      Hope this helps,
      jim

    Q:

Does the TK-4-IN come with a remote control?
Asked on 1/22/2012 by blmranch from Ellensburg, WA

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The remote (part TK-RE02) is not included with the tankless water heater and must be purchased separately. The remote gives you a wider range and greater number of temperature-control options than using the dipswitch to change the setpoint.

    Q:

Can your Takagi water heater be used for infloor radiant heating and can you use it with glycol or will it void the warranty.

      A:

You can use up to a 30% mixture of glycol with this unit. Using it for heating (glycol or no glycol) cuts the warranty in half.

    Q:

I want to install a water lobster in the kitchen to decrease the flow of cold water to the hot water faucet in the sink. Will this unit interfere with circulating warm water through the cold water pipes? Hot water lobsters work well to shorten the wait for hot water when used with conventional tank heaters.

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

We do not sell the product, but it is our understanding that hot water lobsters are designed to work only with tank-style water heaters.

    Q:

Would Takagi TK-4-in model is sufficient for one family house with 3 showers and 2 kitchens.
Asked on 11/30/2011 by Ed from NY

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

This unit can provide the maximum per-minute flow displayed on page 2 of the manual linked below. In New York, you may need to make the water 60 degrees hotter during the winter. When this is the case, the T-K4 can produce 5 gallons of hot water per minute. This should be enough for two simultaneous showers, but not much else. During warmer times of the year, the unit is capable of higher flow rates.

  • TK-4-IN Takagi Tankless Indoor Water Heater (Natural Gas)

    Q:

I notice persons using the OS model in the northwest part of the country and in Canada. I will be installing the unit in Arkansas where the outside temp in Late jan or early Feb may reach zero or at the very lowest 5 below. Is there a freeze issue with the OS? I know there is flame but only when in use. Please advise, ASAP. I will be installing in less than 6 weeks.
Asked on 9/26/2011 by Steven from Fort Smith, AR

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

We would not recommend using the OS outdoor unit in your area. It may pick up some heat from the house, and you can use the unit's freeze protection and insulate the pipes, but the manufacturer only recommends outdoor installation in very warm climates.
