Description for Takagi T-KJR2-IN-LP

Released in 2010, the T-KJr2-IN & T-KJr2-OS are the smallest water heaters in the Takagi tankless line. This small, but powerful unit can meet all the hot-water needs of a small American home or apartment with one or two bathrooms. Designed to virtually do anything a 40-gallon tank-type water heater can do and more, the compact, wall mounted T-K Jr. can support hydronic baseboard or radiant floor heating applications, as well as provide domestic hot water to plumbing fixtures and appliances.

Cost-efficient and environmentally friendly, the T-KJr2-IN can be converted into a direct-vent unit by using the optional TV10 conversion kit for installation in a garage, a utility closet or any confined space in which makeup air may be limited.

  • T-KJr2-IN Takagi Tankless Indoor Water Heater (Propane)

    Q:

The rpecification calls for a 3/4 inch gas inlet. Since we heat primarily ith wood, our propane supply is a 125 gallon tank with 1/2 inch pipeing. The unit will only serve one bathroom, but the well water in the winter is not much above freezing. Will the unit work for this installation?

I just installed a unit in similar circumstances. 6 months ago.
no problem with the operation, customer has had consistent hot water.
We did have a problem with sand from the well.
make sure that the water supply is well filtered.
      seems like a nice unit

You might get lucky. It depends what other appliances are served by the
gas line and how far the unit is from the tank. Among other factors.
If you use 2.5 gpm at 80 degree rise then you will need just about the full
140,000 BTU rated input for the tk junior.

      A:

Ok. Here is the thing. You need to install a 3/4 pipe from the gas tank to the unit, even if the gas tanks and the unit are 1/2. The more 3/4 pipe are in between, the better the unit will work.!! Very important, otherwise the unit will shut off automatically for error 3. Make sure the unit has its pipe fumes well installed, i mean, it has to have at least 35 inches of vertical pipe and then you can use an elbow.
And for the water, just make sure the pressure goes up to 20 psi at least..
With this i think you wont have any trouble..

If the power is out, then your pump won't run so no need to light the flame.

No, a Takagi water heater needs power to vent gasses out of it. If there
is no power it would be dangerous to try and light it, and I don't think it
      would work.

No. There is an internal blower and microprocessor that need to be powered up. You could run the unit off of a very small generator though. Power draw is very low.

u must have power (120vac) to operate the onboard computer. if u don't have
power to your house, u can rig it up with a small converter (available at auto parts or

    Q:

I currently have a T-Kjr (2006) installed to heat a closed radiant floor system at an elev. of 6,000 ft (near lake tahoe). The heat area is 2,100 sq ft broken into 5 zones. The current unit seems to be having to work to hard for this use. Is there an alternative that would be more effecient, cost effective, and better suited to my needs? I do have sufficent room for a floor based unit or tank type.

      A:

For heating a better choice would be a boiler over a water heater or tankless water heater. Boilers are designed for heating where water heaters/tankless water heaters are more designed for plumbing.

Are there any disadvantages/limitations of using this product in a radiant space heating application as opposed to a boiler?
Asked on 7/25/2011 by Matt from CT

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The only disadvantage would be efficiency. Tankless water heaters are not designed for radiant heating applications and will usually not yield maximum efficiency if used for radiant heat.

  • T-KJr2-IN Takagi Tankless Indoor Water Heater (Propane)

    Q:

I am thinking about installing one of these in an RV replacing my hot water heater. Have you heard of anyone doing this? What kind of venting would be required? Could I run this system on 12v power?

If I wanted to also use this in replacement of my furnace, what components would be needed? Thank you.
Asked on 4/15/2011 by Rick from Chico, Ca

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Yes, you can use Takagi tankless units in an RV. Please refer to page 12 of the Installation Manual ( http://s3.pexsupply.com/manuals/1289416869887/41431_PROD_FILE.pdf ) for venting instructions. This system requires a 120 volt power supply. It can be used as the heat source in hydronic heating systems, but cannot replace a furnace to supply forced hot air.
