I have a 1700 sq. ft. 110 yr. old house w/ only insulation in the attic and below floor although we have new replacement windows. Our current oil fired boiler that is approx. 20 yrs. old. It has a spec.on it, DOE heating Cap 147000/173000 BTUH and 1BR NET Output 127000/150400 BTUH. I am looking at the Triangle Tube Pretige Excellence PE110 NG. Using the 45 BTU p sq. ft.rule it seems to me it should be fine.

                  A:

The BTU load you need depends on many factors. You certainly may be able to get by with a smaller boiler (especially in a warmer climate), but we would recommend that you have a heat loss calculation performed on your house if you want to be sure. Our BTU Calculator ( http://www.pexsupply.com/pex/control/BTUCalculator ) may be a helpful resource, but a house as old as yours falls outside the norm.

The unit will function without any modifications, but you will need to de-rate its BTU input rating by 2% for every 1,000 feet above sea level.

Yes. The specs say 180 gallons per hour of DHW (domestic hot water). If my math is correct (180 gallons divided by 60 minutes in an hour) leaves you with 3 gallons per minute . . . not 4. I may be missing something but that's just going off of their specs.
