I used the product as the heat exchanger from my outside wook furnace to my zone heating system with an oil furnace as backup. It transfers enough heat to keep an old KOA store building heated well.

The tank supplies all the hot water we need for a family of 4. It is well insulated the boiler runs only when the hot water is drawn off. If you have long runs from the tank make sure you insulate your lines. Simple to hook up no vent needed, comes with the aqua stat. Anyone looking to upgrade their hot water tank that has a boiler should look into one of these indirect tanks. Very pleased with our purchase.

Great performance, very minor quibles

I am using this in conjunction with a Triangle Tube 110 boiler. It performs excellent and I'm very happy with it.
The only minor complaints that I have are related to the piping connections. None of them came out perpendicular to the tank itself. My contractor ended up spending an extra hour plus to get the piping to look decent and not like an Escher drawing.
For the cost of this tank I would have expected a little more quality control in this area. but it doesn't diminish what this is actually for and at the end of the day it is down in the basement and it works great.

Make sure you put a heat trap on your cold water line, the bottom of the tank actually does heat up and that heat will travel right up your cold line.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Merchant response: One way to keep the system looking clean is to hard-pipe out of the unit and then transition to PEX. You can also use bend supports with PEX-a tubing, which that will straighten out once the hot water starts running through it.

    I am trying to correctly size this unit for installation for a family of 5. Currently have a Peerless WBV-03 boiler with an estimated output of 100,000. Is this boiler adequate to get the required recovery for this unit or should I be looking at a different unit.

      On average a family of five will use about 100 - 150 gallons of water during a peak hour. This unit should cover that demand.

    I am trying to hook up the smart 40 water heater to a white rodgers 3 wire zone valve. What terminals connect to make this operate correctly. The smart 40 has the terminals c, 1, & 2 while the white rodgers zone valve has 2, 2/5, 4, 6, 1, & 3. Thanks for your help.

      You will need to use a zone valve controller. The zone valves themselves do not wire directly to the indirect water heater.

      Any savings will be based on the boiler that is connected to the indirect water heater. The indirect will have priority over calls for heating.

The energy stored by the water tank allows the furnace to turn on and off less often, which saves energy. Therefore, an indirect water heater used with a high-efficiency boiler and well-insulated tank can be the least expensive means of providing hot water.
