This Manifold is just what i was looking for. good price. although i ordered this to be sent to my home in FL. I then took it to my cabin in TN. and found that it came with all hot and cold fittings to supply the fixtures but did not come with the the 3 - 1" fittings for the main water feed and hot and cold for the water heater. Had to shop around and find some during the 1 week was there (TN.).

this is state of the art plumbing at its finest. my only gripe is with the pex crimp style i purchased you cannot do a hybrid of 3/8 and 1/2 so i purchased the 3/8 fittings from another party that being said everything else is awesome and even their 1 800 number was of great assistance to me. i would reccomend this to anyone looking for an alternative to branch and tree style plumbing.

Could not be more pleased

By Ken the serial DIYer

Comments about 1/2", 24 Port Crimp MANABLOC (9 hot, 15 cold):

My recently purchased home is 45 years old and we are in the middle of major renovations, including kitchen and bathroom reconfiguration/remodeling. And I do it all myself.Since I needed to rework some of my plumbing I could not think of a better time to switch to a home run water distribution system. After researching online as well as visiting plumbing supply houses and home improvement centers, I settled on the Manabloc 24 port manifold with crimped connections for PEX. It required me to purchase a crimping tool for less than $100 at my local [@] but it has been very straightforward and easy, once I worked through the initial intimdadation factors of the plumbing system itself. I began by simply tying in to the mainline source and adding the manifold to my existing system and then began adding appliances/distribution lines one at a time and removing them from the old lines. My first connection was to my water heater so that I could distribute hot and cold. Even thought this is not new construction, I went ahead and configured the pass through connection to my water heater and returned the hot water to the manifold so that I have full control of my hot water distribution. It also allows me to plan for a future tankless water heater. It went very well so my relative anxiety began to subside. I then connected a newly configured bathroom, hot and cold. It worked like a charm. Then on to the next bathroom and then the kitchen, etc. Each connection became easier and quicker. I still have a couple more to go but I have been very pleased with the overall result and my new ability to control my water distribution from one point of access in a central part of my home and not having to run out to the street to turn off my water everytime I had an issue.Initially, with each new connection, I would simply cut the copper line and cap off the old connection with a Sharkbite end plug just in case I became too intimated and needed to back off. Once I became comfortable, however, I began to remove the old copper plumbing just to clean things up and get it out of my way. I was able to run my PEX lines through my floor joists etc so there are no hanging pipes to contend with. It is now a very clean look and also very easy to understand.Overall, I am very pleased with this design and with the Manabloc product.I am a serial DIYer and this was a great pick for me.

Comments about Viega 1/2", 30 Port Crimp MANABLOC (12 hot, 18 cold):

I cannot fathom how this is not flying off the shelves at a far faster rate: It is the absolute answer to sourcing any home-run water supply system. All connections are designed for (and necessarily must be at) hand-tightness only, and pipe tapes and dopes are neither needed nor allowed for proper installation. This greatly simplifies and expedites the process of connecting to the Manibloc; valuable features/tips that provide a clear advantage over other manifold systems (which should be advertized, but are not). I experienced zero leaks upon testing and charging the system. The Manibloc is easy to mount, with allowance for multiple mounting techniques both within and without a wall. It is well worth the while--and is more economical--to invest in the Manibloc kit which includes the Manibloc, all fittings for the distribution ports, mounting brackets (for optional mounting between studs), an extra valve key (for a total of two), and everything else otherwise supplied with just the Manibloc. The Manibloc distributes water in the shortest, most intuitive path conceivable, which minimizes frictional pressure loss from source to spigot, and improves temperature and timeliness of your water--both when and wherever you need it. Think MORE: If you anticipate having 15 cold lines and 8 hot lines in your home or business, purchase a Manibloc with at least 18 cold and 12 hot outlet ports to allow for any unforeseeable future expansion. Whichever Manibloc you choose, you'll love yourself for wisely thinking ahead, and you'll greatly enjoy the unparallelled convenience and performance of the Viega Manibloc system.

  • 1/2", 36 Port Crimp MANABLOC (14 hot, 22 cold)

    Q:

My water main has a connector right at the meter that converts it to 1/2". Should I change that to 3/4" as well as make the connections to my HWH 3/4" as well? Everything is 1/2" right now.

      A:

If the ½” pipe carries enough flow for you now (without excessive pressure
drop at full usage), there is little reason to go bigger, other than noise.
¾” pipe holds more water than ½” pipe, so the velocity for any given flow
will be less. Less velocity = less noise.
If you use ¾ after the water heater, the amount of hot water you have to
fill the pipe with before it gets to where you want it will be higher than
if you used ½”. But, it will be quieter. If you are running a single
fixture off of each valve of the manifold. 3/8” pipe on the hot water side
will give a faster hot water response than ½”, but, more noise. It is all
      a trade off.

      If you can, do it.
You will want that 3/4" main for good pressure to multiple 1/2" outlets.

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

if you're converting from copper to pex, I would definitly go up to 3/4" for the main supply line.
Reason being, the measurement is based on the outside diameter of the pipe... so 1/2" copper is actually larger based on the inside diameter compared to 1/2" pex...
then, ontop of that, when you do a "fitting" with copper, the fitting goes on the outside of the copper (so it doesn't effect the inside diameter of the pipe), but with Pex, the fitting goes on the INSIDE of the tube, thus causing an even greater decrease in the inside diameter of the pipe, and a bottleneck at that location.
so I would upsize to 3/4" for that reason alone...

ontop of that, I'm assuming you're using 1/2" for all the breakouts... so you want your main supply line to be larger than the supply line for each individual sink/tub/toilet... (personally, I went with 1" for the main line in... which was 3/4" copper to begin with, for the reason above... but I also tend to go overkill...)

  • Viega 3/8", 24 Port Crimp MANABLOC (9 hot, 15 cold)

    Q:

Looking to retrofit a manifold system in place of a copper branch set up. I have an oil boiler for heat (radiators) and domestic hot water. Currently it is 1/2 in copper (cold) to the boiler and 1/2 in coming back (hot). I see that the supply fittings are set up for 3/4 pex min, so I am going to need to reduce it somewhere. Any suggestions as to how? Should the reduction be made closer to the manabloc, so that the incoming hot line takes shorter time to purge? Anything else I should be thinking about with this set up?
Asked on 1/23/2012 by Nate from Rising Sun, MD

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The exact point of the reduction would not matter too much to our knowledge. If you decide to feed the MANABLOC with 1/2" our only concern would be that you may not be getting enough flow to supply all the lines.

There are two cold water inlet/outlet on the manifold, does it matter which one I use for the supply inlet ?thanks

      A:

Yes and no. When you buy the manabloc install kit, you get two adapters and a plug for the single inlet. I got a third adaptor and ran soft water into the single inlet which in turn fills the three colds on the hot side as well as the cold side. The "inlet" on the cold side then becomes an outlet to the HWH. The inlet on the hot side comes from the HWH.

It does not. Water pressure in the system will be sufficient to allow you to use it either way.

I need to run 3 3/4 lines up to the second floor. One to feed a spare bathroom, one for a jetted shower and one for a whirlpool tub/toilet and 2 sinks. Should I branch off the incoming lines to the manabloc?

Branching off the main line would be your only option, as you cannot run 3/4" lines from the MANABLOC distribution ports.

      A:

It may be easier to install MINIBLOCs in the lines. A part 50355 fitting could, theoretically, connect two MANABLOCs together, but it's really designed to connect MINIBLOCs directly to MANABLOCs. Getting two MANABLOCs to fit together would require them to face in different directions.

      A:

Uponor's AquaPEX tubing is compatible with all MANABLOC styles. The crimp-style MANABLOC may be a better option if you do not have a tool yet simply because the press tool is more expensive.
