Comments about Watts 150A, 1/2" Water Hammer Arrestor:

Bought two of these units for use with a new LG, "All-in-one" washer/dryer unit, that cycles water valves more often than conventional units.

Totally solved serious water-hammer issues, much better than a piston-style arrestor.

Had to make a custom "Tee" unit with hose adapters, and a custom wall-mount, but worked like a charm. My customer was delighted with the final assembly and performance.

Photos available on request.

Comments about Watts 150A, 1/2" Water Hammer Arrestor:

Replaced two of the exact same for my mother-in-law. Her old(20+ years) were in use for clothes washer and had rusted badly due to water leak from a pipe above them. Like the ability to add pressure to match local water pressure conditions. Easy to install.

Comments about Watts 150A, 1/2" Water Hammer Arrestor:

i had pipe running from the upstairs bath that were clanging whenever the shower was turned off (bad). Granted that the pipes were not secured as well as they should have been(I secured when I added the arrestor) I think that the real solution was the addition of this product. Easy to do with sharkbite tees. Would recommend.

Comments about Watts 150A, 1/2" Water Hammer Arrestor:

I tried a number of different water hammer arrestors but this is by far the best one! The pre-charged air chamber incorporates a rubber bladder that isolates the air from the water. The results are far less maintenance compared with a typical water arrestor purchased at a big box store.

With today's front loading washers that open and close the solenoid valve like they're trying to wear it out!

Comments about Watts 150A, 1/2" Water Hammer Arrestor:

Schrader valve is what makes it special. Most come factory set which would have been too high for my system, I was able to lower the pressure and had it working optimally after a few tries.

  • Q:

I noticed in the installation instructions that these arrestors are installed near the washing machines, toilets, dishwasher, etc. Do I need multiple arrestors or can I put one in the supply line? I had installed a shark bite pipe style arrestor and it worked for a while but the hammer has returned. Static water pressure is 90 psi

For the arrestor to work well, it is placed near the appliance. You will need multiple arrestors for effectiveness. The Watts allows you add air pressure to recommended 5psi below static water pressure.

If your pipes are copper it may be that your pipes are overly secured not
allowing for any give. Also if your pipes are copper and flexing and
knocking against wood members then felt wrapping may need to be installed
around the pipes were knocking happens, usually in crawl space under home,
      to dampen/kill the noise.

Try shutting off water and releasing the pressure in the hot and cold lines. Then using a tire gauge check arrestors pressure, you should have pressure if not inflate to 25# or so. This should help with bang

      A:

I would first check the air pressure within the 150A and, like most inflated innertubes, it might have lost some of its pressure. You can download from PexSupply the instructions to the 150A and find the air pressure required for your dynamic water pressure. You have two pressures, one is the static pressure which is if you attached a pressure gauge to, lets say, your outdoor faucet, and opened the faucet that would be your static water pressure. If you then opened up your garden hose it would read the dynamic pressure which is the pressure the instructions talk about. What you might do that's a little easier is to check the air pressure currently in the Watts arrestor while the toilet or washing machine is asking for water and see if it matches the the pressure you need per the instructions and then add or reduce the appropriate pressure prescribed. If that's a little bit too much I'd just add 5 lbs of pressure using a bicycle pump and see what happens.

there is air being introduced in your pipes. Unless the WHA is leaking, it should be fine.

  • Q:

What do you use to charge with air the WATTS 150A 1/2" Water Hammer Arrestor? Would a regular bicycle pump work or I will need a compresort?

  • Q:

I have 85 psi water pressure from the city. Want to install this on inlet of water heater. So I would pre charge to 90?
    Asked on 3/9/2011 by Anonymous

    • A:

From the installation instructions: "Unit is factory pre-charged to 30psi (207 kPa). If system pressure is higher than 35psi (241 kPa), add air until the valve is 5psi (34 kPa) below the system flow pressure."

Based on that, I would recommend charging to 85 psi before installing. The idea is to ensure that the diaphragm is in the ideal position (not too compressed, but still sufficiently compressed) when hooked up to the supply line. Note that once hooked up, I would expect the pressures to come to equilibrium pretty quickly, and that unless that membrane is insanely strong, the pressure in the air above the water should match the pressure in the water. Also, when water is flowing through the line, the pressure in the line drops due to both line losses and to the Bernoulli effect.
