Comments about WTGO-3 100,000 BTU Output Gold Oil Boiler w/ Tankless Heater:

Our Weil Mclain boiler had a leak in between the boiler sections, and our service tech recommended replacement, but was way out of our budget. Although it's not recommended (and not for everyone), I installed the new one myself. The unit came with everything needed for a basic install, save the burner, which is mentioned when you try to purchase the boiler (they make it easy and tell you which one you need). Replacement was straightforward; the gold model being a modern equivalent of my 35 year old unit. The unit was tested, and wore the mark of that (there was water in the boiler). The setup was really on the money, and even the furnace tech was surprised on how well it was delivered, and how well it fired out of the box. The controls are so much better than the old ones, and the low water cut off gives me piece of mind. Pex handled the shipping. I have nothing bad to say about my new boiler, and nothing but rave reviews for Pex. Some words of warning have to go here: There's a reason why furnace techs are in business; I was smart, but also very lucky. It took me, the DIY guy, 30 man hours to remove the old, reinstall the new, and get all the wiring and piping done. A plumber/technician will get you up in a long day. How much is your time worth? This unit is HEAVY - Pex is not kidding at the weight of 750 lbs for the shipment. Get a lift gate truck, and a plan to get it down the steps (and the old one out) BEFORE you buy. I have a walkout basement; I don't think I would consider this as a DIY job otherwise. Last, but not least, get all your local codes before you install; National codes don't begin to cover local requirements, and you'll save yourself cutting in controls and valves later if you make sure you know ALL codes (electric, fire, oil and plumbing) before hand. Pex - thank you for making this project as easy and stress free as it could have been. My wife loves the quiet new heat.

            A:

Yes; mine is hooked up to the old chimney breech; it uses 7" pipe. Make sure you use stove pipe (not duct work). 7" pipe isn't carried by the box stores, so use your local plumbing outfit. Have a professional set and check the draft; its really important.

            A:

A higher BTU rating means more capacity. The heat required depends on many factors, including square footage and insulation quality. Please use our BTU Calculator ( http://www.pexsupply.com/pex/control/BTUCalculator ) to get an estimate.

Unfortunately this Weil Mclain boiler does not qualify for a federal tax credit. You may be able to check with either your state or the local utility company to see if there are any other rebates available.
