Nice product, lousy manual

Comments about White Rodgers 80 Series Programmable, 2H/2C, Digital Thermostat w/ Wireless Remote Sensor:

Basic things the manual SHOULD explain:
1) How these thermostats works: They complete circuits that close relays that activate your air conditioner and heater. This small device contains a small programmable computer.
2)How it gets its power: from small residual currents flowing through the un-activated relays.

Once you understand these things, the why and how to hook it up becomes easier to understand.

The manual is currently written on an engineers level and is difficult to understand, even by someone who has worked with electronics for over 50 years, programmed computers for over 40 years, written process specifications for electronic parts, and written textbooks for engineers. It needs to be written so that a nine year old can understand how to hook things up and how to program the device.

  • White Rodgers 80 Series Programmable, 2H/2C, Digital Thermostat w/ Wireless Remote Sensor

    Q:

How does the thermostat incorporate the remote temperature? Does it take an average of both OR
Does it kick in whenever either thermostats reach certain temperature?

      A:

You have a few different options with this unit. You can use just the thermostat, create an average between the remote sensor and the thermostat (both these options are under the “local on” setting), use the sensor exclusively (under “local off”).
