Comments about Non-Programmable Thermostat, Hardwired or Battery Powered:

I purchased this manual thermostat to replace an older programable thermostat which was becoming erratic and was perhaps demented. This one is great. It controls the temperature with precision and was was simple to install and hook up.

Comments about Non-Programmable Thermostat, Hardwired or Battery Powered:

This is the best basic non-programmable thermostat I have ever installed or used. I have put in several in businesses, churches, my home(s), relative's homes, and friend's homes. I like it that much. It does a much better job of temperature sensing than cheaper (no-name) brands that you can buy for less at the local hardware store. Therefore, the temperature is maintained much more evenly, making it obviously more comfortable.

By far one of my favorite features is the filter alarm. How do you know if your filter needs replacing at 2 or 3 or 4 months? It all depends on how long the fan has run. This thermostat keeps track of the fan running time and you can adjust the time interval on the filter alarm for your environment. Not even the expensive Honeywell thermostats have this feature. (Most of the White-Rodgers / Emerson's do!)

Another nice feature is that it maintains separate heat and cool set temperatures. Many thermostats, especially cheaper ones, have only one set temperature, making it very likely, for example, that when you switch from cool to heat that the furnace will come on immediately. With this thermostat you can set your favorite temps for both, for example, cool to 74 degrees and heat to 68. That way when you switch between them you don't have to change anything else.

It is easy to use and hides all the un-needed controls behind an easy to access panel. This makes it simple for even little kids or anyone else to use. It never beeps at you and has held up well for years. I'm currently buying two more for my new house!

    Q:

Does the model 1f86-344 have a reset button? If so, where is it?

      A:

The only reset I know is what the instructions say to reset back to factory reset position is mentioned in the troubleshooting section of the instructions. By pressing the up and down arrows and move system switch from off to heat at the same time. This resets the factory defaults to configuration menu. If it has power, has been reset and still does not function correctly contact your place of purchase. Make sure all your wires are hooked to the right terminals. I've had mine for 2 years and never had any problems with it.

There is no reset button on this thermostat. To perform reset operation, press the up and down arrows simultaneously, while moving the system switch from OFF to HEAT.

    Q:

The thermostat will not display temps. I try to lower temp and I get a goofy code and it states "filter battery". I can't find door on top to see a battery. what do I do?

      A:

If you don't have a user manual you should download one from the
PexSupply website. I don't know what the code "filter battery" means,
but the two AA backup batteries which supply backup power to the
thermostat are easy to access. You just pull off the plastic cover
with your fingers and the batteries are right there. There are
grooves all around the case and entire front pops off. I don't think
the thermostat needs any batteries to work properly. I think it is
normally powered off the thermostat wires and only uses the batteries
to retain memory if the line power fails.

      A:

"Filter" and "Battery" are actually two separate messages. They indicate, respectively, that the filter may need to be replaced (based on the time frame programmed at installation) and that the battery is low. We are not sure about the other code, but perhaps the unit needs a battery replacement. Please refer to the manual linked below for more information.
