Description for Uponor (Wirsbo) A3030101

  • When it comes to radiant heating systems, not just any thermostat will do. That's why professional installers choose Wirsbo Radiant Thermostats. They are the first thermostats designed specifically for radiant floor heating.
  • Why a special thermostat for radiant floor heating? The dynamics of a radiant heating system differ from typical baseboard or warm air heating systems. Radiant systems always heat objects and mass, and need to be addressed differently than conventional thermostat logic.
  • The Wirsbo Thermostats offer two different control methods to handle this condition--differential and pulse-width modulation. Differential--When the measured room temperature falls 1F (0.5C) below the desired room setting, the control devices wired to the thermostat turns on.
  • Pulse-width Modulation--When the condition exists where the room temperature is 1 to 3F (0.5 to 1.5 C) below the room setting, the thermostat manages the on-and-off cycle using pulse width modulation. The on-and-off times vary depending on the difference between the room and set temperatures. The farther away the room temperature is from setpoint, the longer the on time. This prevents the room temperature from rising above the set temperature. The heating system runs continually at room temperature differences greater than 3 degrees F below setpoint.
  • These thermostats also feature digital filtering. This means that the thermostat measure the room temperature continuously. The thermostat's sensor detects even the smallest change, making it better able to react to a room's changing conditions. If all the room's temperatures were displayed as they are sensed, the temperatures shown would appear erratic and inconsistent. Filtering works by averaging the sensed values to ensure a smooth operation and display.
  • Wirsbo offers three thermostat models: Heat Only (A3030101), Heat and Cool (A3030102) and Heat Only, Three-wire (A3030103). The Heat Only (A3030101) and Heat and Cool (A3030102) thermostats are designed to operate in heating mode over two wires. These types of thermostats obtain their power for operation from taking voltage from the connected wiring. Different from other industry power-sharing thermostats, these eliminate any need for a third wire or battery, which makes the thermostats simple to install, wire and service.
  • And for those times when the two-wire thermostats aren't appropriate because of incompatibility with some third-party devices, Wirsbo also offers the Heat Only, Three-wire (A3030103).
  • No matter which thermostat you use, when you're selling radiant, you're selling comfort, The Wirsbo Radiant Thermostats feature special built-in software that provides the ultimate control that standard thermostats--when used with radiant heat--simply cannot. There's no overshoot, no undershoot--just constant, even comfort. Your customers will love the distinctive design and easy-on-the-eyes readout. But most of all, they will love the true radiant comfort only Wirsbo Radiant Thermostats provide!

I got these because one of our thermostats was acting up. A replacement was easily installed and worked well in the room which has been more evenly heated ever since. The result was so satisfactory that I ordered 4 more for other zones because it was obvious that the electronics. including the temperature sensor, had been changed from the originals which were installed in 2009. If you can use a screwdriver you can install this unit. Only a few minutes are required for installation. [...]

Comments about Wirsbo Radiant Thermostat (WT 1), Heat Only, Two-wire:

This thermostat is controlling our 1st floor zone for hydronic radiant floor heat. It installed easily and works great. We didn't want a programmable thermostat, which this isn't. Great product so far, especially for the price.

Good thermostat, but works oddly

By Brick

Comments about Wirsbo Radiant Thermostat (WT 1), Heat Only, Two-wire:

The Uponor t-stat works much better with the radiant heat than the old standard Honeywell t-stat that it replaced, but it doesn't work quite as I expected. When the Uponor indicates that the room has come to the set temperature and it's no longer calling for heat, in fact the circulating pump continues to run until the display indicates one degree above the set temperature. The temperature goes no higher than that, however, and remains stable, unlike the old t-stat.

Comments about Wirsbo Radiant Thermostat (WT 1), Heat Only, Two-wire:

This thermostat does a great job of controlling overshoot with the cycling off & on once it reads within 3 degrees of the set point. I use Taco Delt "T" variable speed circulators together with this thermostat.

Excellent thermostat!

By Marv

Comments about Wirsbo Radiant Thermostat (WT 1), Heat Only, Two-wire:

I have a six zone radiant heat system in my house and one of the original installation thermostats failed recently. The original Wirsbo thermostats are no longer made so I substituted the Wirsbo (Uponor) WT1 two wire heat only model and it works great. It's better than the original Wirsbo thermostat because when the power goes out, it resets to your input temperature as opposed to 70 degrees like my old one. I'm very happy with the WT1 and will end up replacing all my old thermostats with this one.

Perfect replacement for the original thermostat used on our radiant floor heating system. Everything was the same except for the name on the product (said Uponor vs. Wirsbo).

  • Wirsbo Radiant Thermostat (WT 1), Heat Only, Two-wire

    Q:

Currently I have a 1008 sq. foot single level home with radiant heat provided by a 9kw boiler mfg. by Electro Industries. One zone only. The control is currently performed through the embedded floor sensor only with a Ranco Electronic Temperature Control unit.

I have to reprogram the setpoint of the control unit up or down every time the weather significantly changes in order to maintain the desired room air temperature.

Is the answer to this issue as simple as changing control from the floor sensor to your Radiant WT 1 thermostat? Seems to me that using a thermostat like this that monitors and uses air temperature to control would be more accurate and efficient than me trying to estimate what floor sensor setpoint will give me the desired room temp......Or am I missing something here??

Please advise and thank you much!

      A:

      It maybe that simple yes.
Your comfort is closely tied to the temperature your head feels, both
from radiation (structure temperature) and convection (air
temperature). In cold weather, while the floor is warm, both the walls
and the ceiling are likely to be significantly cooler, which will not
only cool the air, but radiate cold to your head.
In milder weather the warmer structure will require significantly less
heat to be provided through the floor (a cooler slab) to be comfortable.
Another factor is the amount of air circulation between the floor an the
rest of the structure. A ceiling fan can significantly increase the
transfer of heat from the floor to the rest of the structure, however an
air temperature sensor is still recommended.

I would think a room thermostat would give a much more consistent room
temperature. I have three room thermostats one for each of three zones and
      am very happy with it.

Take the thermostat off the wall mounting bracket by gently pushing down on the top this should split the unit from the wall plate. Inside they have a button called the special setting button. Push this once, then using the + and - buttons you can change units from F to C

I just replaced one of my Wirsbo setpoint thermostats with the Uponor WT1 models and my system is working great again. The WT1 is a much better thermostat than my original Wirsbo (and it's not made in China!).

The Wirsbo WT1 Heat only 2 wire thermostat is a great replacement for your Wirsbo Setpoint 511S. The Wirsbo WT1 Heat only 2 wire thermostat has many additional features such as condition--differential and pulse-width modulation and digital filtering.

as we text I am building a detached garage for woodworking. I am planning on installing 1/2' PEX in the slab. I live in Wisconsin, what type thermostat do I need ? Is it installed into the slab?
Asked on 10/18/2011 by Okis from SE Wisconsin

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

You should be able to use any low-voltage thermostat. The thermostat itself always goes on the wall, but it is a good idea to use a slab sensor with radiant heat. The Uponor A3041501 thermostat is a non-programmable model that comes with a slab sensor.

    Q:

When our builder installed our hydronic radiant floors, he installed LuxPro mechanical thermostats in each zone. We have many south facing windows to help warm the house in the winter. The temperature in the house is never the steady, even, temperature that is touted for radiant systems. Our home goes from quite cool to overly warm, especially on sunny winter days. We have never been happy with our system and have said we would not put one in again. Is our thermostat the problem? Will buying a Wirsbo radiant thermostat help to control temperature fluxuations?
Asked on 6/25/2011 by Meg from Central New York

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

It seems to us as if the thermostat is the issue. We recommend that you use a digital thermostat (they are more accurate). The swing setting on the mechanical thermostat is probably too high. This Uponor thermostat should make your system work much better and allow you to feel more comfortable.

    Q:

Is this thermostat compatible with my Taco ZVC405 Zone Valve Control? Also, the PWM operating mode sounds like it could lead to short cycling of the boiler. What do you think?
Asked on 3/16/2011 by Jeff from San Francisco, CA

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

This thermostat will be compatible with the ZVC405. The PVM mode is designed to prevent the room temperature from rising above the desired level. It should only shorten the on times of the boiler, rather than making it turn on more frequently. If you do not want to use PVM mode, you can use differential mode instead.

The Special Setting button can be found on the inside of the thermostat case. When using this button, the thermostat must be wired and have power, but needs to be separate from the wall mounting plate. More information on this button, as well as instructions for changing the default upper and lower temperature limits can be found on page 4 of the manual ( http://s3.pexsupply.com/manuals/1286975873009/40450_PROD_FILE.pdf ).
